Looking For A Quick Body Detox? Try Good Ole Prune Juice
Author: Jesse F. Smith
An easy body detox that works to regulate bowel movements
You have heard it from your grandmother time and time again. Prune juice is good for you! Prune juice has been used for ages to clean out the body and make bowel movements more regular. For less than , you can experience a quick body detox. The only thing unappealing about this body detox, however, may be the taste.
Body detox
Many folks of the older generation used to drink prune juice because they liked it. They also realized that it was a good way to detox your body. Prune juice has a lot of fiber. In fact, one glass of prune juice has so much fiber that drinking it will have you running for the bathroom in no time. You may not enjoy pooping all the time, but there is no need to be embarrassed. If you do not have a bowel movement on a regular basis, waste accumulates in your body. That is why a body detox is so important. The average person should pass a stool once a day. This sound like a lot, but in all actuality, you should have a bowel movement after each meal. If you only have to go every few days or even less than that, you may be constipated. The number one thing that prune juice is known to do is help with constipation.
Prune juice is a good, safe body detox because it is also full of antioxidants, iron and other nutrients. Toxins affect your skin and your body's health. The more toxins that are present in your body, the more complications you will experience. Antioxidants may help prevent cancer and have anti-aging properties. Prune juice is good for normalizing blood sugar levels as well.
Prune juice, as well as other sources of fiber, should be incorporated in to your diet. Although prune juice serves as a quick fix for a body detox, it is not a good idea to drink large amounts of it on a frequent basis. Too much prune juice can cause diarrhea or kidney problems. It is best to drink prune juice in moderation, or to consume it occasionally when you need help regulating a bowel movement. Doctors do not recommend drinking prune juice in high dosages. Believe me, one glass will do the trick!

Prune juice is the only thing that’ll work for me for constipation, but it’s NASTY,. What will make it better?
Is there anything I can mix with it to make it taste a little bit better, or will mixing something with it make it less effective in relieving the constipation? I’ve tried just about everything I know that’s out there for constipation. I’ve tried:
Benefiber – loved this stuff becuz it worked even better than the prune juice at 1st, but after a few days, it suddenly stopped working for me
Metamucil and Citrucel – didn’t work at all for me
laxatives – these work sometimes and sometimes they don’t. For example I was recommended Mineral Oil by one of my doctors for the constipation and I took the maximum dosage allowed in one day, which is 3 tblsps. and it had no effect on me whatsoever
- I’ve also tried Rx medicines like Zelnorm and they had no effect.
So basically I’m stuck with the nasty prune juice but everytime I bring the cup of prune juice near my mouth, I feel like I wanna puke. Not just from the horrible smell of it but the taste too. What can I do to make it taste better?

Try eating plums instead of drinking the prune juice…prunes are just dried up plums anyways but plums taste better

It sounds like your parents need to take you to a gastroenterologist. You may need a few tests to figure out what is causing this. An alternative to ducolax is simply taking a calcium/magnesium tablet 2-3 times per day (morning, noon, bedtime). This is chemically similar to ducolax and it works on the same principle. The magnesium content should be around from 200-250 mg per tablet, and you need to drink a little more fluids each day when taking a dosage this high. Its a good idea to take in a similar amount of calcium at the same time.
Total calcium intake from all sources should not exceed 2500 mg per day.
Total magnesium intake is recommended to be less than 350 mg per day because it causes diarrhea and calcium loss at higher dosages. When taken with calcium and for the purpose of treating constipation, a higher dosage of magnesium is generally not a health risk. If you decide to try taking magnesium and it works for you, you should get an appointment with your doc to make sure this is an appropriate long-term treatment. There could be reasons why this is not healthy for you, but trying it for a few days to see if it works won’t hurt anything.

You need to talk to your parents about seeing a gastroenterologist–a doctor who specializes in problems of the digestive system. If nothing is working, then someone needs to look further for the cause of your problems. I’m sure you are very uncomfortable.
I doubt you have cancer. More likely, you have a condition that is causing your digestive system to be sluggish and not to eliminate stool on a regular basis. This can cause pain in the bowel area because of pressure.
Good luck!

when my son used to be constipated i used Oval drops you should try that give it to them by mouth and its mint tasting so its not harsh for them to take to, also try and cut back on the amounts of milk that you give your child throughout the day, try your baby on cereal and babyfood beginner.

My 3 year old daughter has been taking lactulose for months now and the doctor said she could be taking it for up to 2 years.
It only softens the stools by drawing fluid from the kidneys and making it easier to pass. Make sure that you replace these fluids by giving your baby plenty to drink.
Getting the balance right is the hard bit………….. i now just give it my daughter a couple of times a week to help her go and then leave off it for a couple of days………….. doing it this way stops her from having runny stools. You have to find the right dose for you.

laxative advice for holly….?
we went to the docs as she had been constipated for weeks,no amount of orange/apple or prune juice would get her moving…
the doctor gave her lactulose syrup..well its got her bowels moving good, but if i stop as i did then she gets constipated again
so should i just continue to give it or lowers the dosage? dr said twice a day,im only giving it once and its working well.
also if your baby has used it,how long for? and were they ok when the came off it?
thankyou.

Can you give babies metamucil?
My daughter is 8 months old and she has been chronically constipated since a couple weeks after she was born. I breastfed her and that did not work, so I started using a partially broken down formula, lactose free formula, soy formula, hypoallergenic formula, karo syrup in her bottles, i give her A LOT of just plain water, I tried a tbsp of brown sugar in her water, apple juice, prunes, prune juice, baby yogurt, i don’t feed her anything especially starchy but none of this seems to be working. So I was curious if I could give her metamucil if I gave her less than the reccomended dosage for an older child?
