How to have a healthy bowel movement

Author: Manu Thomas

A healthy bowel movement is very important for our health. Undigested food and other toxic waste materials are eliminated from the body with the help of a good bowel movement. A normal bowel movement should be easy and no pain should be experienced during it. Hemorrhoids are caused due to strained bowel movement which leads to the bursting of veins near the anal region and results in blood in the stool. Constipation can also cause hemorrhoids and lead to other problems like abdominal pain, bloating and gas. The failure to expel the harmful toxins from the body in the form of stools leads to re-absorption by the body into the blood stream which can lead to various diseases.

So, a regular bowel is a must if you want to have a healthy body.

Follow the tips given below to maintain a good bowel movement

  • Go to the toilet each time you feel the urge for a bowel movement. It is never advised to hold it back as it can lead to constipation and there is a risk of you developing it as a habit.
  • You should drink plenty of water as it hydrates the stool and makes it easy to pass it off. A glass of water in the morning can help you have a good bowel movement.
  • You can also include tamarind pulp in your diet if you are constipated as it is a well known laxative.
  • Take a spoonful of olive oil once in the morning and once at night as it encourages peristalsis (movement of the intestines) which can make you have a good bowel movement.

You can also improve your digestion and normalize your bowel movement and cure the symptoms of constipation by including an herbal supplement in your daily diet.

yes of course because the lower wall of the bladder is sitting on the wall of the colone and this is good enough of a reason…..

Can irritable bowel syndrome (ibs) cause urinary problems like unable to completely empty bladder?
    or even abdominal cramping?

Christian, you definitely need to see your regular doctor and talk about this. Something’s not right, and I believe it can and should be fixed. If necessary, you’ll be referred to a gastroenterologist.

It’s not normal to have constant flatulence, unless you’re eating a lot of broccoli, which I have a feeling you’re not.

You need to be examined in person. Ask the doctor all of your questions, and get the answers!

I think you’re suffering for nothing, and you can get this problem fixed. Please make an appointment ASAP, and good luck soon! :)

    is this a bowel obstruction?
At least half a year ago, I did a barium swallow, and the only significant information they uncovered was minor nodularity, I think near like the duodenum or like where the stomach meets the small intestine. It was dismissed as benign and not something to look into unless I had unusual symptoms.

Anyway, lately, I’ve been experiencing stretches where my stomach will have a dull pain, that usually feels like it could be coming from my back or my stomache, closer to my pelvis than my sternum. sometimes it feels like it routes in a line up the left side of my torso to right around my heart. during these outbreaks it hurts to completely fill my lungs aswell.

Aside from these incidences, I also almost constantly have gas/flatulence, and usually feel as if, when I have a bowel movement, I am unable to completely empty the bowel.

Could these disparate complaints have anything to do with the nodularity that was noted in my report?

colon cancer is usually a disease of older people. However, cancer does not honor age, unfortunately. If you have a family history, then you are very wise to get it checked out. The doctor may want to scope you. It doesn’t hurt, i know, I had enough times. It doesn’t mean you actually have colon cancer but I wouldn’t take any chances since you do have a history, no will be able to tell you if you have cancer…only your doctor will and you are seeing the right kind of doctor. Your type of symptoms can be a variety of problems. First and foremost. you must rule out cancer. Good luck to you and my prayers are with you.

Should I worry about colon cancer?
I am only a 21-year-old male. My grandparents do have a history of colon cancer but they are in their 70s. The symptoms I have been having are narrow/thin stool, feeling unable to completely empty the bowels, constipation as well as diarrhea, and a lot of abdominal bloating. On two occasions I had a lot of bright red blood in the toilet. I never vomited, though. Does anyone know if these symptoms sound like something else besides cancer? I still have to wait a few more weeks to get in to see a gastroenterologist.

Whats wrong with me? 1 day long sickness followed by many odd symptoms…?
I got sick about 4 days ago. I had somewhat of a fever, I was extremely sore, felt sick to my stomach, diarrhea, extreme loss of appetite, extremely fatigued, could not sleep, at night my arms felt almost numb, very sensitive to anything touching my skin (it hurt and felt sore). I only vomited one time, toward the end of the night, and it was one long heave that completely emptied my stomach. It hurt terribly (I’ve been through bad motorcycle accidents, had fingernails ripped clean off, etc.) and that one heave put me to tears. I slept terribly that night, but in the morning felt, overall, much better than the day before. By the end of the second day, i felt well enough that I finally ate some normal food (rather than fruit smoothies), and though I did not eat much, I ate and it stayed in my stomach and I felt alright afterwards.

Ever since that day when I felt terribly sick, I have had weird things happening. I have since been going about my normal routine just as normally as I can. I have not gotten my appetite back (eating is almost a chore) though sometimes I will feel very hungry, but it will usually quickly go away and become a little bit of an uneasy stomach feeling upon thinking about food.

I also have not had a normal bowel movement since the day before I became very sick. It is not diarrhea, rather it is very small movements of softer solid stool in small amounts. I feel almost as if I am “plugged up”.

Since being sick I have felt very “off”. I have been misplacing things, forgetting things, mixing words up in sentences, been very irritable and stressed feeling, loss of concentration.. Even good friends have asked me whats up with the way I’ve been acting.

This morning, I felt as if I need to either have a bowel movement or throw up, but I was unable to tell as I made my way to the bathroom. It just felt as if one way or another, something needed to come out. I ended up vomiting a small amount after dry heaving 3-4 times.

Today, I still just dont really feel like myself.. I am starting to worry and will probably call the doctor tomorrow.

Someone I know mentioned the possibility of salmonella, as there was recently contaminated produce at a local subway sandwich location where I had eaten just 2 days before I became very sick.

    Thanks for any serious input.

  8. Abby Says:

It could be salmonella or food poisoning, or even the flu. Please go to a doctor.

I’m having a colonoscopy, can I still breastfeed while taking the preparation?
I’m still breastfeeding my 11 month old son. I’ve been given PicoPrep3 in sachets to take the day before my procedure. The preparation is going to completely empty my bowels and I am unable to eat, just drink clear liquids that whole day. Will it cross over into my breastmilk and cause the same effects to my son. Should I express for a couple days before and feed him with a bottle on the day I drink the sachet mixture? Has anyone else had this experience?
PS. The General Electric – I am not an idiot, and I am definitely not going to risk feeding my baby without proper advice. I am simply asking if anyone out there has had the same experience and might know. If you do not know the answer to the question, don’t answer it.

  10. birdie Says:

The prep is killer. Youll be in the bathroom for hours and very dehydrated when all is done. I would pump ahead of time. Even if the laxative doesnt pass into breast milk (which it might for all I know) you wont have much fluid in your body left to make milk and youll feel weak from all that toileting. Good luck.
